Increase Productivity by Defragging Your Computer

Are you considering buying a new computer because yours has slowed to a crawl? Before you go out and spend a lot of money on a new machine, you may want to try defragmentation. "Defragging" is a great way to speed up your computer, curing many computer performance issues and increasing productivity of your home or business PC.

Computer Fragmentation

Files are fragmented every time they are saved on your computer. This means that they are broken up into pieces and stored in different locations. The more files you save, the longer it takes for the computer to locate and assemble each part when you try and load them.

New computers are fast because when you begin saving files, they are all saved in continuous space, next to or near one another. As you delete, edit and add to files, gaps are created. Your computer then fills these gaps with fragmented files. Fragmentation makes the search for your file much longer. Over a period of time, these files are saved farther and farther apart and your computer becomes less and less efficient.

Computer Defragmentation

What is defragmentation? Imagine you have a large family and they are scattered all over the country. If you choose to go visit them, it can take you months. If you manage to catch them all in one place, or even near one another, you can see each member in far less time.

Defragmentation software is like a family reunion, putting your files closer together so it takes your computer less time to search for them. On the user end, this makes computer work quick and easy.

A defragmentation program gathers these files in folders on the computer's hard drive. When all the pieces of a file occupy a single space, rather than being scattered all over your computer, they are easier to retrieve and your system speeds up.

System Defragmentation and Increased Efficiency

One of the great benefits of the computer age is the ability to have current information from around the world available at the press of a button. Therefore, nothing is more frustrating than hovering for endless minutes over a slow computer.

In a business environment, nothing eats away at productivity and morale more than balky computers. Your help desk is overworked, employees can get frustrated and efficiency can quickly nosedive. All this is easily preventable. All you really need to know is how to clean a hard drive.

Computers should be defragmented at least once a month to ensure maximum efficiency. If you use them around the clock, you may want to defrag more often. Defragging should create a noticeable difference in your computer's speed.

Home computers are also candidates for defragmentation. If you use your computer regularly, but are overwhelmed at the idea of troubleshooting defragmentation of files, rest assured that defragmenting software is not difficult to use. Learning to defrag will also be a lot less painful than buying a whole new computer.

Defragmentation Equals Productivity

A faster computer is a more productive computer. When working on computers, the majority of users multi-task, and need a computer that is both efficient and speedy. Whether you need to get a report to the boss on time, or just want directions to the ballpark, we use a computer because it gives us what we need in seconds.

The best reason for computer defragmentation? The cost is usually no more than 50 dollars.
